Games Booking App

UI & UX

THE PROBLEM:

In-Office sports and gaming facilities are one of the best ways to help people meet each other, develop relationships, and of course, take a break from their brain-smashing work. But often, the availability of sports equipment, like the foosball table, ping-pong table, Xbox, football ground, etc is difficult to track.

THE GOAL:

The goal of this project is to create a mobile experience that helps employees find out which in-office sports and gaming facilities are available, and if available, they could even book a round of the game with anybody in the office. They could challenge and connect with others that encouraged team building and collaboration.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS:

There are no such existing apps on the play store and there are no such apps found in google search results either. Also, booking apps are not currently used by offices even though their employees feel that such an app can make it easy for them.

MY ROLE:

My role in these projects is involved with the following :

  • Design Strategy

  • Interviews - Qualitative

  • Surveys - Quantitative

  • Use Persona

  • Empathy mapping

  • User scenario

  • Storyboarding

  • User flows

  • Card sorting

  • Information Architecture

  • Low - fidelity prototypes

  • High - fidelity prototypes

  • Usability Testing

5 STAGE PROCESS:

UX STRATEGY:

Executive Intent:

The 1-year goal is to have:

  • 100 big sized companies on board

  • 10 K App Installs

General Tasks:

  • Create Account

  • Create/Edit/View Profile

  • Login, Logout

  • Search

  • Book a Game

  • Check Availability

  • Cancel a Booking

  • Confirm Booking

  • Challenge Someone

Business Type:

B2B (Business to Business)

Technical Constraints:

Internet connection for mobile devices

Critical Success Factor:

  • No overlap in bookings

  • Good usability

  • Demand

Revenue Model:

Payment from Companies to use the platform

Cross Channels:

  • Android (Initially)

  • Web and ISO (Later)

Target Audience:

The application will be used by the employees of the companies who pay to use our platform

SWOT ANALYSIS:

STRENGTH:

  • No competition, because nothing like this is currently incorporated across big companies

  • Low cost

  • Great UX

WEAKNESS:

  • Initially only available on Android

  • Lack of a full-fledged technical team

OPPORTUNITY:

  • Possibility to add a section where employees can view upcoming tournaments, trainings

  • A leaderboard for the company

  • A section where you can filter and meet people on the basis of matching interests

THREAT:

  • Convincing companies of the value this platform holds

  • Keeping it formal and not a medium of distraction for employees

  • Lack of external funding

  • Discovering competitors that are more experienced

INTERVIEWS - QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS:

Questions Asked:

  1. What are your hobbies?

  2. Activities you do in the office for fun or to take a break from work.

  3. What sports/games facilities do you have in your office? Both indoor & outdoor.

  4. Do you need to book them or do you just go and start playing? For both indoor & outdoor.

  5. What do you do when they are occupied?

  6. How could the management of these facilities be made better, in your opinion? (thinking about some difficulties that you faced)

  7. Do you think a booking system would be good for your office? Why or why not?

Research Synthesis:

  • There was no pattern observed in the office games, both males and females played to take a break. It varied for all.

  • There were a few users who preferred to just take a coffee break and all of them were males.

  • The kind of games also varied for all the users.

  • Almost everyone spontaneously went ahead and started playing games, and if they were busy they would either wait or find something else to do.

  • Some companies have fixed timings wherein the employees could go and play the games and some also had a booking system.

  • The majority of the users find the need to increase the number of games available according to the employee strength and some had complaints related to the management of the facilities.

  • Many people think that having a booking system for spontaneous breaks wouldn't make sense whereas some think this will be beneficial as it will regulate the time for each person and a few mentioned this could also help in making employees aware of the activities their offices have.

STAGE -2- DEFINE

USER PERSONA :

EMPATHY MAP (Saurav):

EMPATHY MAP (Deepti):

Deepti - Empathy Map.jpg

USER SCENARIO (Saurav):

Saurav is planning to take part in the basketball tournament. So it’s very important for him to practice on a daily basis. He doesn’t get time to practice after going home so he wants to utilize his break time during office hours. The booking system has enabled him to book his slot for the entire week so that he doesn’t miss a single day of practice.

USER SCENARIO (Deepti):

Deepti loves her job but because of that, she ends up spending most of her time sitting in front of her computer which is slowly making her fat and lazy. She wants to stay active during office hours. With the help of the booking system, she is able to plan a match with her friends and get to know more about the sports societies in the office.

STAGE -3- IDEATE

BRAINSTORMING:

POV 1

Saurav needs to practice playing football daily during office hours because he has a match coming up and does not get time for it after office hours.

POV 2

Deepti needs to play some game regularly because she wants to stay fit and doesn’t want to become lazy as she spends most of her time sitting and working on her laptop.

HOW MIGHT WE QUESTIONS

  1. How Might We create an app that helps employees book a slot seamlessly?

  2. How Might We inspire employees to use the app?

  3. How Might We make sure that the app is used fairly?

  4. How Might We make the employees understand the importance physical activity during the day?

  5. How Might We encourage people to become active?

  6. How Might We spread information related to in-office games and sports?

  IDEAS

  • Make it intuitive

  • Make the loading fast

  • The UI should be user friendly

  • Useful features

  • Engagement

  • Motivational content to stay fit

  • By providing health trackers

  • Have a time limit for each employee per day

  • All games should have a feature to check if there is any booking and shouldn’t allow anyone else

  • Give them information about their health

  • Providing knowledge of the positive effects of physical activity

  • Having an option to create challenges

  • Having tournaments

  • Giving awards or perks for most active employees

  • Using the App
